I bought a new 2012 300S back in May and am LOVIN it.

But it is being attacked by tiny ants.

This past Saturday I noticed ants all over the front-and inside the engine bay.

I washed the car and later in the day they were back.

I took a 300 mile trip on Sun-Mon and they were gone.

I washed the car when I got back yesterday and put the car cover on.

This morning it was fine. I took my car cover off and went to work.

When I got home-I started to put my car cover on-and noticed piles of ants in various places on it. I did not see that there was anything on it that they were after.

I am afraid to spray the car with ant spray-for fear of what it might do to the finish.

I try to keep the car very clean-vacuum it out-no food left inside and so forth.

I have not seen them inside or towards the rear of the car.

I do live on the edge of the woods and under trees. We have 3 other cars and I have never seen ants on any of the them-so I don't "think" that it is stuff falling from the trees-but not sure.

I have seen the same type ants a number of times on my front porch-which is a good way away from the car parking area. Not inside the house-but marching across the front porch.

    Ideas-thoughts?

Sounds like it might be something on your cover attracting them. Perhaps washing the cover????

Funny that you posted this... I've been parking in the same spot for years and never had any ant trouble until recently. Last Saturday, I had over a thousand crawling across my back seat. Then yesterday they were crawling all over the exterior, but none inside.

There has to be something they're attracted to.

Crazy. Like E said start with your cover. Wash it or replace it or something. After that.... I don't know. Take it to the dealer? lol

They might be attracted to the chemicals being released from the plastic (the new car scent) you can get ant traps at home depot they are small metal containers they dont smell but the ant will go in and take the poison back to the nest once you do this it will kill the ant at the source and your problem will be fixed.

Wow I can't think of anything to help you, I doubt it's good to spray any chemicals on your car and would definetly go for traps.

I hope you find a way to contain this,

So even without the cover-the ants are still on there-after a couple of days.

This morning I will filling up and saw them crawling all over-from the front to the back-on the sides etc.

This was after driver 45 min mostly at highway speeds-they can hang on pretty good.

I had thought about the "new car" smell-but they didn't bother it for the first 2 months.

At least they are not on the insdie yet :)

Get a bug bomb..small ones fron the Home Depot or whatever...put the car in the garage and set it off close to it or maybe under it...I use these a couple times a year in my backyard shed...works good...

THat is a good idea if I could get my car in the garage :(

I sprayed the perimeter of the Driveway in a big square with all natural Ant Killer, I think its the Cool Vanilla Scent:) anyway that did it for me, so far this year its not been an issue, it was always worst for me right after a nice rain.

That what my wife says-and I am working on that.

As a followup-they seem to have left as quickly as they appeared.

I have not seen them in several days.

Maybe they got what they were after.

I did wash my cover-a lot easier said than done.

    Good ridance!

wow. of all the trouble i heard at this forum, this is unique! if they do come back, try raid's 'ant killer' (from home depot) but you place this on where their tracks are. so check to see where their 'highway' lane is leading to your car. place this ant killer solution on the track. it will poison them when they get back to their nest. good luck with this! lol
