Working on a 2007 300 base model that my GF's son owns. The car would not start or shift to neutral after being shut off at a gas station. He replaced the shifter part that is white plastic a month before it quite running, when it stopped running, he said the cable going from the shifter to the ignition had "popped" out. It was towed to his place. When I got involved, the console / shifter was dissembled.

So far I have replaced the entire shifter, battery and cable going from the shifter to the ignition switch. The ignition key can be removed but I hear a hum from deep in the dash and the battery drains quickly. When the key is removed the door chime goes off when the drivers door is open, the headlights and other stuff is turned off.

Seems like the ignition is still in the on position even though the key is removed. The tranny cable moves freely and the detents are solid. The detents on the igntition are not solid but there. Anyone have a sequence for trouble shooting this thing?
