Backup Camera install.

I just put a deposit on a 2012 300-S. I was under the impression that the backup camera was part of the 8.4" package. I knew the Garmin navigation was an option. I found a car that had the dual moonroof and Nav, but then as I was walking around the car, I noticed there was no camera in the 3rd brake light housing. I see I can get the camera kit but it says it's only compatible with CTP RE2 or RE4 radio units. How do I know which radio my car has? This is an option I was looking forward to having. Along with the Garmin nav. I could live without the dual pane moonroof. The rear window shade would have been nice also. :-(

Okay, I picked up my new 300 S today. I asked the parts dept guy about the radio. He checked the VIN and said it IS an RB5 unit and is not compatible with the rearview camera. The guy at SteveWhiteParts.com said the camera "should work" with my radio. I'm not gonna buy it, find out it doesn't work, and can't return it. I guess I'll go aftermarket if I really want a camera. It's more of a "want", than a "need" anyway.

I have my rear camera connected through the lockpick. I prob havent even looked at it while backing up since the day it was installed, but it is another mod to add to the list !! I even had the rear camera interrupt all 5 monitors in the car while i was backing up which was kinda cool for the passengers.

hey Joe just found this thread i have the same dilemma 2012 300c rb5 radio did you ever install the cam? i'm thinking about getting the lockpic and the oem thrird brake light cam but not sure if the cam will work with lockpic.
Thats one of the main functions of a lockpick. I can connect 4 dif cameras to my lockpick.

I have a 2012 300S with RE2 Radio. I know I can get the MOPAR camera in the brake light, but I'm told it has no grid markings in the aftermarket unit. Looking at the lockpic and the videos I've seen......Looks pretty tough to get to the back of the radio, having to pull the transmission console, and all (same as mopar and all others. Does anyone have experience with the JEMKO back up camera, which also is OEM plug in.....but has the grids, a CCD camera with 1 lux, and the grids.....but it is license plate mount. I'm wondering if that might be too low?
all thoughts and experience welcome!

You guys can buy the mopar kit at the dealer. It works perfect but is a pain to install. Then it has to be programmed too. I've installed a few of them in 2011- 300's. you guys aren't in Dallas are you?

It seems the differences between Jemco and Mopar is that the Mopar aftermarket does not have the positioning grid lines (Jemco does), the Mopar is part of the trunk brake light, whereas the Jemco is license plate mounted. BOTH require dealer activation. I'm just wondering if license plate is too low? any thoughts? the grid lines are important to me.

The Factory cams have thelines on them (grid is bit of a misnomer), see

The color of the lines helps you when you are new to the car, but you would soon get used to the proximity in the camera image just by how much of the view is filled with the other guys grill.

You still have to get it into your system some how. Have you decided how you will do that?

O, forgot to mention I just did a lockpick in my car.
For the 8 speed transmission, Its easier than the newest video that Lockpick shows on their site.

Look at your shifter knob. Metal band running around it looks like decoration.

But dig your finger nails under that and pull and wiggle it a little bit. Pops right off.
Then a #30 Torq style screw driver bit pulls ONE bolt, and shifter slides up and out. No wires. Piece of cake.

The Transmission bezel can then be lifted and the edges loosened with nothing but fingers (lift front edge just inside the little dash storage compartment), and maybe a dull butter knife prying in the four corners a tad. Its held in by clips, you won't break them. Really easy to put back in as well.

Everything else is like the LockPick videos.

Oh, the car... Yeah:
