I have noticed an oil leak after a long drive (50 miles)
Closer inspection has revealed it is all over the bottom of the engine I’m seeing signs of it around the trans cooler block where the lines snap in but it seams more pronounced on the opposite side of the cooler If I understand it correctly the top third is trans cooler the fluid could be migrating but it’s a lot of fluid or oil on that side The other thing is it’s looks like motor oil but there is no oil cooler so it couldn’t be oil On the other hand if it trans fluid it’s in bad shape I thought I’d install an external trans cooler And change fluid and filter in trans I’m a little nervous about that, did that on a Ford one time and it killed the transmission Any thoughts or opinions
Would be greatly appreciated

First thing I'd check is the oil filter. For five bucks or so, there's no harm in trying it. You can even swap it out without changing the oil, if you prefer.

Just have a small pan or bucket to catch any drips. If you do it cold, there's hardly any mess at all.

Next I'd do a pan drop with fluid and filter change. I've never heard of damaging a NAG1 with a pan drop. Just make sure you refill it correctly. My suggestion would be to buy an aftermarket dipstick and check the fluid level carefully (cold and hot) beforehand.

Again, even if it doesn't resolve your leak, there's no harm done, just good maintenance.
