Posted a similar thread on LXF. Thinking of either painting, or powder coating the Option 5's...in 2012 (not this year :)). I don't have photo shop, so this is about the best I could do. *This is just to give you the idea.* It's just black @ about 50% transparency. I'm not really interested in a different color in the hub, pockets, or face. Thinking of one color for the whole rim. Gun Metal, Black Chrome, color-matched Silver Steel, some shade of Black are just some of the choices I'm considering. Anyway, what you guys think...yes, or no?

If the powder coating is done right, it's a real nice look.

However you get no shine at all if that's what you are looking for.

IMO color matching the paint would look better.

I like it, Phil!

Yeah, I'm not really 100% sold on powder coating. I think paint will give me far more options for color choice, and finish. I agree Silver Steel would look pretty sweet. Thanks for your input Wes. :smiley_thumbs_up:

I love the gun metal look!
Same here. Glad I have lots of time to think about it.

you can get a nice shine with powder coating. just use a gloss type powder, get a clear coat, and then wax it up
My main concern isn't really the shine with powder coating, it's the potential cost of having to pay for having a custom color made. Plus the center caps are plastic, and obviously they couldn't handle the powder coating process. I don't want to have to mess around with trying to get them painted to match. I know the durability factor of powder coating is another plus vs paint.

Gun metal will look nice, but 2012 we wont all be here :)
Dec.21/2012? My car will be in storage when the world ends. End of the world be damned...I'll get my 2012 "season" out of them...lol.

I agree with daniel a good coater clears over the powder. My wheels shine like paint and have just as much depth as paint.
I'm going to explore both avenues to be sure, and I mentioned my concerns above.

there are 100's of colors available and different finishes as well. you can find one that will match or look so close you won't be able to tell the difference. and you should just get some billettech center caps anyways :p

On your car, I personally think it's tough to beat the clean look of a bright silver wheel. If you do go the gunmetal route, I don't think it'll look bad, but it'll definitely be an entirely different look. Your color is just dark enough to start making the gunmetal color choice a tough one.

BT would have to make custom center caps, as the Option 5's are 3" in diameter.

Yeah, we'll have to see? I only had them on my car for a month last year, and haven't seen my car since late December. I love how they look in their original finish, for sure. I think the winter is just getting to me, and got me thinking?

IMO I would go with color matching them, I think would look great in Silver Steel
Just wonder if it would be too much Silver Steel? Definitely the wheel wouldn't disappear, as the color is still light enough.

Painted and colour matched would really tie it all together cleanly. IMO
Agreed, but like above maybe too much without the rim having a lip that would give me the choice of just doing the center. Only time will tell I guess?

I agree... bright silver gets my vote.

After buffing a curb in Las Vegas I had my stock SRT wheel stripped and painted a color in the gunmetal/silversteel range. I like it very much and people notice them. In sunlight it has a two color appearance with the sides of the spoke appearing darker than the face.
