I installed an AVH P-4200dvd, but the unit will not turn on with only the battery 12v wire (yellow wire connected) only turns on when the constant ignition 12v (Red Wire) is interconnected with the battery 12v wire(yellow wire)....the problem with that is the unit will turn on but will not turn off when the ignition is shut off......and the Pioneer have no manual "turn-off" button.......is it the wiring or a blown fuse

Jordan,

The yellow wire is usually used for the memory of the head unit. When the car is off it keeps a constant 12VDC going to the radio. If you have a test light or a multimeter you can check that.

The red wire is usually only powered on when the car is on. That is what gives power to the radio to turn on and operate and then shut off after the car is turned off. That wire should only have 12VDC going to it when the car is on, or ignition switch in the ACC position. Again you need to check this wire as well with the key off, 0VDC and then when the car in on 12VDC.

You probably need one of the PAC adapters to tell the radio when to turn on and off, it gets that info from the CANBUS. Are you using a PAC wiring adapter or similar?

Using a scosche wire harness I bought from an audio store for like 12 bucks.....maybe it is the harness....because everything else works...except the problem of the radio turning on.........if the P4200 had a manual shut off this wouldn't be a problem
