about 7,000 miles ago i had to replace my thermostat. now really a car with 44,000 miles on it needs a new thermostat? anyone had this problem? i posted a thread awhile back (not many replies) to help with this problem. the thermostat seal which is made of rubber broke off & twisted up between the valve that opens and closes. it kept the t-stat open and had basically failed. defective part or something wrong with the car? you guys tell me.

The gasket fully encircles the lip of the tstat. That sounds like a bad install to me. I had one tstat failure about 50 years age stuck closed. I have replaced to one in my Dodge with a lower temp, no problems with either.

I have drive continusly during the 50 years.
