I did this and all I noticed was soot on my rear trunk lid. Ran fine, just didn't burn off the gas properly. Nothing like a tuned up diesel, but noticeable

 

id use the fuel you tune it for dont mess around with it thats when you run into problems

 

I hope this is not taken the wrong way, but you need to spend some time reading. There is so much info on this site you could become an expert in all things Hemi related. You should understand the changes you are making to your car before making them, some can cause catastophic failure, others will put a grin from ear to ear. I spent the better part of 6 months on here reading before I had more than 25 posts, we are all happy to answer questions that's why we come here to help out our fellow 300 brothers and sisters. Making dramatic changes to the computer on your car without understanding what those changes can and will do is asking for trouble.

The number one thing you need to pay attention to is knock... Knock on a Hemi means disaster is not far off. If you are able to find 93 octane then no biggie you will like the extra torque if not only run the tune with the highest octane you can find. Never run 93 octane tune if you ONLY have access to 91 octane. More octane is fine ie.. 92 octane on 91 tune, or 94 octane on 93 tune the reverse is never good long term.

Good information to know . I had put it back to the 93 oct tune yesterday in the morning, I figuered it couldn't be good in the long run.you just confirmed everything I had a doubt about. Thanks

 

HI guys I have a question about the diablo canned tunes . I had the 93octCAI tune but today at work I had nohing to do so I decided to start messing with my diablo, I was told by a guy I raced with a SRT300c that the 91 oct tune using 93oct fuel will give me better performance. I didn't want to try it but today I decided to do it and it was amazing my car took off side ways on brand new tires. You wouldnotice the difference emmidiately. My car is running fine but I was wondering this would affect my engine in any way . Pros and cons. Thanks

Snake...not trying to be a p.i.t.a. here, but the question I think he was asking if its ok to use 93 oct. fuel with the 91 oct. tune, not the other way around. I have been doing exactly that for some time (we typically have 87/89/92 around here). In his defense, the search engine is not exactly pin point accurate in my experience. I guess its possible that I am not using it correctly, but I have found, in general, that it gives a million results that need to be sorted through. I am guilty of just asking a question outright when I know the answer is somewhere in a thread because its not always easy to find the answer with the parameters you are looking for. In my case, when I first came to this forum, I didnt know ANYTHING about cars (still dont by comparison to most of you folks), so I just asked the question because I didnt know where/how to find the answer on my own.

 

It's perfectly fine to run higher octane fuel than the state of tune you installed( ex 93 or 92 octane with a 91 octane tune). The higher octane rating doesn't mean higher performance gas in a sense. What it pertains to is the anti-knock properties which allow the engine to be tuned with more aggressive timing. That in turns adds a performance boost.
Do not run a 93 tune with 91 fuel is all

I agree the search button does not give the exact results and I too will post a question or two when I am in a hurry. I don't think your being a p.i.t.a. When we have new people join I mention it mainly because in some cases people don't know or see the search button and can find some great information. I am a firm believer in "teach a man to fish" so if I know a way someone can increase there personal knowledge I try to show them how. Again, it was why I started the thread with don't take this the wrong way. No big deal and the benefit of our great community is the diversity of knowledge. I learn new things everyday, and hope that I pass on the benefit of that knowledge when I can.:smileup:

I have been thinking about runnig the 93 in my car even though I have the 91, just to see the performance dif... however, 93 is hard to get here...

I can get 100 OCT is that too high? What about the highly concentrated octane boosters... are those like a no go, I've never used em..

What do you smoke in Vegas ?

Do not run 93 tune unless you have that octane or higher ...
No the octane boosters are snake oil....

 

funny i ran 91 octane with a 93 tune and had no st or lt knock of course i did some data logging after i filled up to make sure everything was all good even with my foot in it. pretty sure that the canned tunes are pretty safe just in case this ever happens say when the wife is driving. i know every car is different just saying my 93 tune runs fine on 91.

You are lucky because that is one thing Diablo doesn't recommend unless you do what you did by data logging ....not everyone will do that
