My day at the track

The times I'm posting here were my third effort at the strip, thought I'd share how the car ran. I'm getting better at drag racing, but there's still room for imporvement. I hope this encourages the non-dragging owners out there to give the strip a try this fall. These cars will definitely try hard, and there's a great e.t. in all of them I think if you're willing to work at it a little.

I went to the test & tune with Mike who has a Charger SRT8 on a Saturday afternoon where we had a density altitude below 1000 feet, which is really good considering we are at 700 feet above sea level. It opened at 1pm and we got there at 12:50, just 10 minutes before. There were several people there, but everyone was cooling their cars down and hanging out. Mike wanted to ice his Charger and my time was limited so I figured what the hell, might as well go right now. I popped in my 25-cent fan mod and that cooled the car down from about 210 to 188 with my 185-degree MOTORAD 4128 by the time I made my first run. I also pulled fuse 11 to clear the transmission's adaptives for the first time ever. All of these runs were with the car at 188 degrees in the staging lanes and it would warm to 190 by the end of the run. I'm including time of run, 60 foot time, 1/4 time and mph.

At this point Mike wanted to go and I needed a rest. Mike had his Charger cooled into the 150s, he has a MOTORAD 4128, 25-cent fan mod and a fresh pull of fuse 11 - also still the stock intake & box. If I remember correctly he ran a 13.08@108, then a 13.17@107 and a 13.28@107(all within 10 minutes or so) and decided to put it back on ice. I couldn't stay long but I did throw ice on the intake and walked around while Mike was running. I had to chat with the guy who brought a 6.0 GTO that he was icing down since before I we got there. He said he has run a best 13.3 and did back it up shortly there after with a 13.22@106 fresh off a big cool down. He said they suffer from heat soak just like we do. He also asked how the hell I kept going faster during all my runs:) By this time Mike was back in the pits with the ice back on and I had time for a couple more runs. My car cooled down to 170 at startup and was at 175 degrees for my next run.

After that run I figured it was time to go, it was my wife's 30th birthday and I was taking her out to eat - not a bad way to start the day:)

On my way home Mike calls me and tells me he just ran a 12.998@108 in his Charger!!! He had his temp down to 140 in the staging lanes and cut a 1.98 60ft. time!!! I wonder if he was close to limp mode on that one with the cold temp?

That's all for now, just another SRT8 owner in search of that first 12, hopefully it will come this fall. Oh, other than the t-stat and 25-cent mod, my only mod is an AFE Stage 2 intake.

Dang!! You did a ton of runs!

Which track were you at? Was that Tri-state?

Isn't that best time your personal record?

When does Tri-state run - Saturdays, Sundays, or both? I will be coming to Cincy either next weekend (13th/14th) or the one after that. I'm hoping Cincy is the land of records as it cools off this fall. If irecall, Tri-state actually has some of the best track prep. My all-motor personal best of 12.900 came at Tri-state a year and a half ago.

Not bad at all Eric . You are trapping well so your MPH look good . A perfect launch coupled with the cooler weather will give you your 12's . Keep up the good work and great advice to all . Find a track and hit it . You will not hurt this car . The SRT track experience cars get wailed on daily....and are none the worse for wear . These cars are built for it.....and do all the work . GO...GO......GO........ .:)

Matt,
Those were all at tri-state. Test n Tune is Saturday, their website is www.tristatedragway.com if you want to make sure of a particular Saturday is open. I'll gladly meet you at the track if you come down! Yes, the 13.1 is my best...for now I hope:)

It was funny in that everyone else was there cooling their cars down, I was hammering away run after run and getting faster. These are awesome cars - I think the on-lookers were impressed!

I was just reading my quote . What's a lauch....LOL!! Duh ...... A perfect launch is the key to maxing out the capability of these cars . Unfortunately you need good track prep .....the right air pressure......properly heated tires ...and a good D/A for the perfect 60' time . This is where dreams are made,,,,or crushed......the first 60' . Good luck on the 12's .

Great runs Eric. Looks like you've got a strong car there. With a bit better air and a great launch (your 60 foot times aren't fantastic) you'll squeak into the 12.9s I think.

These cars are amazing. I'm hoping to get all my mods done this weekend and have about a month to get as low into the 13s as I can. It's gonna be fun.

Great runs. I can't wait to get back to the track and test my nitrous and stock wheels. Its been about 7 months since I've been, but I didn't have the nitrous yet and I was on my heavy 22"s. I hit 14.7's to 15's. OUCH!! I hear my track closed though, so I have to find another one. :(

Great runs, Eric-
I am really impressed with the huge difference that the icing made on your times.

It looks like you got the bug! :smiley_thumbs_up:

Great runs, Eric. Way to go! My best times came after I installed the CAI and the Fan Mod. I've never iced the intake but may try that next trip to the track which should happen...in...oh...6 months or depending on the weather.

We don't call it the Great NorthWet out here for nuthin'!!!

Good job, bro! Beans to you!!!
